Katori — Privacy Policy

Effective 23 October 2026 · Black Paper HQ

Katori is a food and calorie logger that works entirely on your phone. This page explains, in plain words, what the app does and does not do with your information.

The short version

What Katori stores on your phone

The foods, meals, portions, goals, preferences and custom foods you enter are kept in a local database on your device. Katori does not ask for your name, email, age, weight or any other personal detail. Nothing in this database is sent anywhere by the app.

If you use Export or Backup, Katori creates a file (CSV or a backup file) and hands it to the app or location you pick. Where that file goes is entirely your choice; once it leaves Katori it is governed by the app or service you sent it to. Deleting the app deletes the local database.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

The free version of Katori shows a banner ad at the bottom of the Today and History screens, and offers optional rewarded ads that you start yourself to unlock a Pro feature until the app closes. Ads are provided by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect the device's advertising ID, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and basic device information. Katori does not add anything to this — it never passes your food log, goals or any in-app data to the ads SDK.

How Google uses this information is described in Google's advertising policy and Google's Privacy Policy. You can limit ad personalisation or reset your advertising ID in your phone's settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads).

Katori Pro, a one-time purchase, removes all ads. Purchases, when available, are handled by Google Play; we never see your payment details.

Permissions

Katori requests internet access only so the ads SDK can load ads. It does not use your location, camera, contacts, microphone or any background access. Files are read or written only when you explicitly export, back up or restore.

Children

Katori is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. Because the app shows ads, it is not intended for use by children.

Food data sources

The built-in food database is compiled from public sources (USDA, IFCT 2017 and Open Food Facts) and ships inside the app. Searching it happens on your phone and sends nothing to us or to those sources.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with an updated effective date. We will not start collecting your food log or any personal data without changing the app itself and saying so clearly.
